Psychotherapy and Counselling

in East Oxford

Welcome to my page! My name is Mark, and I am a psychotherapist. I offer 50-minute sessions in my office in East Oxford and online.

I have completed a rigorous, three-year postgraduate-level psychotherapy training at Oxford University, and I am currently conducting academic research into best practice in psychotherapy, also at Oxford University. For over a decade, I have had the privilege of working in a wide variety of pastoral and therapeutic roles; in the business world, in universities and schools, and in the charity sector. I bring this wealth of knowledge and experience into my work with each and every client. I believe deeply in the transformational power of the therapeutic encounter, and in our capacity to work together to drive towards growth.

You might be considering therapy for all kinds of reasons. Whatever you may be experiencing, I am here to guide you through my therapeutic process, drawing on evidence-based techniques, together with deep empathy and careful attention to detail.

If you would like to explore working with me, or have any questions, please get in touch, and we can arrange a brief telephone call to discuss this further. This call is free of charge and carries no obligation. Then, if it seems like a good fit, we can book an initial 50-minute consultation to talk in more depth about what might be right for you.

I have experience helping clients explore a wide range of issues, including:

abuse academic pressure addiction alcohol anger anxiety BDSM & kink bereavement

bullying cerebral palsy childhood abuse chronic fatigue syndrome cultural differences dating depression

disability disordered eating domestic abuse erectile dysfunction incest infidelity

LGBTQIA+ loneliness compulsive lying masochism menopause misogyny perfectionism

procrastination race and racism relationship difficulties sadism self harm

sex and sexuality sexual abuse spirituality suicidal thoughts trans/non-binary identities trauma work stress

I work with teenagers and adults. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming. I am actively committed to becoming anti-racist and see this as lifelong work.

I practice using the psychodynamic model. I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling from Oxford University, and I am currently conducting a research project in psychotherapy at masters level, also at Oxford University. I am a member of the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association (UPCA), which belongs to the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am in regular supervision and I hold professional liability insurance with Balens Ltd.

My normal way of working is to offer weekly sessions at a fixed, regular time each week, on an open-ended basis. However, I recognise that this is not appropriate for everyone. For this reason, I can also offer short-term work with a pre-agreed number of sessions (such as 4 or 6 sessions), fortnightly sessions, or one-off sessions arranged on an ad hoc basis. We can discuss what would be best for you during our initial consultation.

Fees: Initial session - £40/50 minutes; subsequent sessions - £67/50 minutes.
